
Digitalization frees up time for what matters most: Being present with guests
An automated payroll solution and a user-friendly time registration app have given Skallerup Seaside Resort’s employees and management new digital capabilities, freeing up time to focus on guests.

Summary
Located in the dunes of North Jutland, Skallerup Seaside Resort is a holiday center where nature and presence are at the heart of the experience. There must be time to look guests in the eye and deliver the highest level of service — whether they are on an active family holiday or a relaxing wellness retreat.
Behind the scenes, however, the pace is high. With 292 holiday homes, an annual occupancy rate of 65% or more, and over 200 employees, strong digital tools are essential to ensure smooth daily operations. This also applies to the finance department, which is responsible for ensuring correct payroll across seven different collective agreements.
From manual processes to a digital foundation
As early as 2011, Skallerup Seaside Resort took the first steps in its digitalization journey with the workforce management solution Lessor Workforce. The system quickly became indispensable for shift planning, time registration, and handling complex collective agreements across many different employee groups — from chefs and waiters to receptionists, service staff, and massage therapists.
The associated app makes it easy to view schedules, swap shifts, and track working hours — especially for the many part-time employees and temporary staff, for whom mobile access is essential.
In 2023, the holiday center made a major leap forward by implementing the payroll system Lessor Payroll.
“We chose Lessor Payroll to streamline and simplify our processes — and the difference is clear. Where payroll used to be characterized by manual processes and risk of errors, many steps are now automated. We save approximately 10 hours per payroll run, equivalent to 25%. At the same time, the system integrates with the CPR registry, the Danish Tax Agency (SKAT), and NemKonto, providing security and transparency for both management and employees,” says Lars Jacobsen, CFO of Skallerup Seaside Resort.

Real-time integration across systems
Most recently, Skallerup Seaside Resort implemented the Paychex Europe Integration Platform. This ensures two-way integration and automatic real-time data exchange between Paychex solutions.
“With the integration platform, we now always have correct master data across the two solutions, because data is automatically transferred from Lessor Payroll to Lessor Workforce — effortlessly. We onboard employees in Lessor Payroll and maintain data in one place. All master data is continuously updated via the CPR registry, and we avoid entering the same information multiple times with a high risk of errors. It clearly saves resources,” he adds.
Benefits across the organization
For the payroll department, time savings are significant despite the complexity of multiple collective agreements.
“All collective agreements are built into the solution. We simply answer five questions — then all master data is generated automatically, from pension schemes to allowances. This means we can create a new employee in two minutes and without errors,” says Tine Sørensen, HR Employee at Skallerup Seaside Resort.
For employees, transparency is a clear improvement. In the app, they have access to payslips, working hours, and shift swaps — all at their fingertips. This provides especially younger part-time employees with security and overview.
Managers also experience clear benefits. Shift planning and staffing management now take place directly in the system, where rules for allowances, qualifications, and collective agreements are embedded. This means less administration — and more time for leadership and guest interaction.
A strong foundation for the future
The implementation has been successful and forms an important part of the overall delivery from Paychex Europe.
“The consultant who supported us managed to create clarity, transfer valuable knowledge, and ensure that we were stronger after the process. We did not just end up with a finished solution — we became stronger users,” he says.
Skallerup Seaside Resort has been named Denmark’s Best Holiday Center three years in a row at the Danish Travel Awards. Behind the success are dedicated employees — but digitalization also plays a key role.
“Automation and digitalization are necessary to create engaged employees. We depend on solid tools, and with Lessor Payroll and Lessor Workforce, we now have a unified solution that can support our growth for many years to come” concludes Lars Jacobsen.
