Our history

The story of Paychex Europe starts on both sides of the Atlantic, with an entrepreneur in the US and an entrepreneur in Denmark starting businesses in the early 1970s, unaware of each other. Besides low start-up capital, what else they had in common was courage, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to meet a need in their respective markets.


10 years later, in 1981, Lohndata saw its light in East Berlin with the purpose of providing payroll services & software for German companies of all sizes. In 2003, Paychex Inc. embarked on its first journey into Europe with the foundation of Paychex Deutschland GmbH. In 2013, Paychex Deutschland and Lohndata merged. In 2016, Paychex looked north and acquired Lessor A/S. In 2024, we are now publicly known as Paychex Europe providing payroll, HR, and time & attendance software and services.
